Karen and Charles Phillips Charitable Provides Grant To Single Mother and Nursing Student

Lena Acker is a determined single mother with a plan and also served in the Navy.

She is currently employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant who just started working. Lena is the proud mother of a 3 year old son and is enrolled in Brown Mackie College in their two year Associate Nursing Degree program.  She expects to complete her degree by Dec 2014.

She served a short stint in the Navy but but had to leave  Basic Training because of her pregnancy.  She has adjusted to a new route to her goal of being a nurse and is well on her way.

A restructuring at her prior job left her without a residence and she resides with her Grandmother.  Karen and Phillips Charitable Organizations approved a grant to help her through the transition and continue on her path to becoming a registered nurse.

Board member Eric Garvin worked this case and was very impressed with Ms. Acker’s ambition and can-do attitude and described her as the ideal person that could benefit from a PCO boost grant.

Karen and Charles Phillips Charitable Organizations is a 501(c)3 non-profit that was created to provide timely financial aid for single parents, disadvantaged students interested in engineering, and wounded veterans.  The PCO Board: Eric Garvin, Young Huh, Karen Phillips, and Charles Phillips. The foundation has provided over 100 grants in the last three years. – See more at: http://www.phillipscharitable.org/about-us/#sthash.lPmn45kH.dpuf
